The Graduate, portrait of a Boxer Pup

13005. The Graduate. Commissioned pet portraits. Contact me.

The Graduate • colored pencil on Mi Tientes paper • 8x6 inches

The Graduate is a piece I have worked on (more off than on) for almost two years. Colored pencil is a slow method to creating artwork but even more when not worked on continuously day after day until completed. When a piece goes through starts and stops and is laid aside for days, weeks, even months, I find it difficult to get started again. I tend to do that (lay the piece aside) more when I am painting for myself.

The pup in this colored pencil rendering is my little boxer boy Thor. At the time of the graduation he was no more than six months old—still a pup. What am I saying? Today is almost 2-1/2 years old and he still plays like a puppy, a 76 pound pup.

I'm happy withThe Graduate. It's one of my favorites. I'll be painting more of Thor boxer boy in the future.

Thanks for following my blog.

As a child, I was reprimanded for daydreaming. Today my daydreams morph into paintings.
