9 Things to Love about Texas. The Texas Landscape Series.

Texas Landscape Series
4x4 inches each, approximately 20x20 inches overall size
palette knife oil paintings  on Arches 140# cp paper

The Texas Landscape Series and Nine Things to Love about Texas:

(left to right - row 1, 2 and 3)
  1. Plains
  2. Sunsets
  3. Piney Woods
  4. Hill Country
  5. Texas Sauce Art Life
  6. Summertime
  7. Bluebonnets
  8. Indian Paintbrushes
  9. Dog Days of Summer

This collection of 4x4 oil paintings makes a nice 9-square set matted and framed together in a single frame.  My TXsauce logo is featured in the center of the set as I have shown it. The painting you receive will not have the text over any of the paintings but will have my signature.

The red dot on #7 Bluebonnets indicates SOLD. I had not intended to break this set. I did only because the collector indicated she would be back for the other paintings one-by-one. She was not able to purchase the others, but I can repaint the Bluebonnets and complete the set.

Sunflower Gold, Mixed Media Painting

SUNFLOWER GOLD, mixed media of watercolor and paint pen on
9 x 12 x 1-1/2 inch deep gallery wrap canvas.
Copyright Vernita Bridges Hoyt 2009, 2014.
The painted image wraps the 1-1/2" deep sides of canvas.
AVAILABLE.
Another painting from the "Out of my Head" series, Sunflower Gold has been held in my archives since 2009. On looking back, I realize my mother also provided inspiration for this painting. She grew giant sunflowers in a sunny flower bed. Send me a message for more information about this painting.

As a child, I was reprimanded for daydreaming. Today my daydreams morph into paintings.

Creative Valentine Siamese Blue Rose

"Your creativity is an indicator of inner health and well being. Look after yourself." --April Jarocka. (1)

Hoyt Valentine Siamese Blue Rose
Mixed Media Original
Digital Collage and Colored Pencil
8x10 inches
Click on the Valentine image above to view detail and description. This Valentine and more are available at CnNTrends.Etsy.com. There is so much truth in April Jarocka's quoted statement above. I have always noticed that when I lose my way in the studio, I feel stilted, a bit lost, and out of balance mentally. I attributed the mood changes to lack of studio time. Maybe the loss of creativity is a direct result of not taking care of myself. Considering this, I'll approach my time in the studio from a different perspective and promise to take care of me, too.

"Like Dorothy washing the witch's kitchen floor, we can achieve our breakthroughs not by setting out to break through, but by doing the work that is right in front of us." --Bridges, William. The Way of Transition. (2)

a watercolor portrait in progress
Work continues on the watercolor portrait of Madison, and I hope to have a completed portrait to show you soon. Next will be the portrait of Christian ... and then others waiting. Sometimes work is easier when there is more of it.

LIFE. All around us are wildfires. Bastrop, Texas, has the worst. Over 500 homes have burned along with over 16,000 acres of forest. Fires closest to me are in Magnolia, The Woodlands and Spring. There are fires in Leander and Marble Falls, fires in Houston and Anderson counties, fires close to my daughter, my son, my father, brothers and cousins. Really there are fires close to just about everyone I know—family and friends. We are still hoping and praying for rain. Enough rain to end this Texas drought and put out wildfires.

SOUL PASSAGE

"The soul craves experiences that offer it the rich depths of God. Silence, solitude, holy leisure, simplicity, prayer, journaling, the Eucharist, rituals that touch the space of Mystery, symbols and images, the Bible, laughter, delight in the divine Presence, deep encounters with Creation, and the merciful coming together of human hearts." --Sue Monk Kidd

SOUL PASSAGE • oil on 14x18 inch canvas

ART.  The visionary SOUL PASSAGE was painted with a palette knife and thick oil paint. I see images in this painting, but it is for you to read your own images. Email txsauce@txsauce.net for more information about this oil painting.

BEAR CREEK CHAPEL

"Choose a good reputation over great riches, for being held in high esteem is better than having silver or gold." --Proverbs 22:1
Inspired by Addicks-Bear Creek Methodist Church

ART.
BEAR CREEK CHAPEL
oil on linen-wrapped hardboard panel
10x8 inch palette knife painting

Inspired by Addicks-Bear Creek Methodist, a historical church on Hwy. 6 in the greater Houston area

A part of me goes into each of my paintings. Sometimes after a painting is finished, I look at it and wonder if you can see my emotion. Colors used, technique and style reflect where I was on that day of my life. Artists are generally sensitive people, and I am no exception. Every event, every communication, every experience will find its way through the paint and on to the canvas. If I am up or down, that emotion goes into the painting in progress. To own one of my paintings is to own a small part of me.

About fourteen of my framed paintings will be featured in the Old Town Spring Art Walk on Saturday, August 28, 5-8 pm at the Garden of the Dragonfly Gallery. For more information, click on the blog Events tab just under the header.

LIFE.  "Rich" is a state of mind. Some people go through cash like it's burning their fingers yet call themselves poor. I've known other people who hold on to every penny earned but don't enjoy life.  Then there are those who truly have no money. When I was a child, Mom used to say that "rich" is not about money but about counting the blessings in our days. Definitely "rich" is a state of mind, and this day (today) really is the only time we have. Let's count Blessings.
